Modern, Fresh Update

The Contemporaine, a multiple design & architecture award winning building by Perkins + Will architecture & design firm, and developed by a good friend of mine, is a River North Chicago iconic contemporary concrete & glass building.

Built in 2004, the space has amazing bones & just needed a little facelift. Keeping the original kitchen & bath cabinets and vanities, we put quartz tops, changed all the light fixtures, and did new bathrooms.

My favorite 3 things of this project:

1) The Sky Fall Suspension pendants, by Studio Italia Design

The name only stirs up a James Bond reference; the glass has a chrome finish when off, but when you turn it on you can see the filaments suspended inside; and finally, the halo of light it shines on the counter and floor in the evening is beautiful

2) The Larmes LED Suspension chandelier, by Et2

classic piece that has volume, but doesn't interfere with the view. The shape was perfect to pair with the Sky Fall.

3) The custom chairs

Working on a budget, I had this pair of chairs I visualized in my head- flat wide chrome arms, the arch of the arms sweeping  curve to the ground creating the base; it had to be a pair, and in great shape. I scoured everywhere- eBay, furniture stores, friends even! And then I found them. The Perfect Pair. On Craigslist, thru a woman who worked for an art gallery & they didnt need them anymore. $300 for the set. All other sets I could find were $1,000/ea. Total score!

The fabric is by Romo Group Black Edition, called Limbali Vermillion- a "A contemporary velvet displaying a unique contrast of texture and colour." A burnt orange base with a varying widths of charcoal velvet across the top- divine! Well, client thinks they are "Swanky". Perfectly recovered by Kylie Egge over at www.recoveredinterior.com
